What Is SOC 2 Type II?
Developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), SOC 2 Type II is a widely recognized industry framework for evaluating an organization’s controls across five Trust Services Criteria: Security, Availability, Processing Integrity, Confidentiality, and Privacy.
The assessment was conducted by A-LIGN, a leading cybersecurity compliance provider trusted by more than 4,000 organizations worldwide.
GreenNode’s SOC 2 Type II report is the result of a rigorous six-month assessment covering key areas of service operations and security. The assessment confirmed that GreenNode meets its service commitments and system requirements against the relevant Trust Services Criteria for Security and Availability.
More than validating the design of GreenNode’s controls, the assessment also demonstrates that these controls operated effectively and consistently throughout the review period.
What Does SOC 2 Type II Mean for Cloud Customers?
When moving workloads and data to the Cloud, enterprises look beyond infrastructure performance and scalability. They also need confidence that their Cloud provider’s security controls and operational processes are not only well designed, but effective in practice.
SOC 2 Type II provides an independent basis for evaluating this assurance by assessing both the design of controls and their operating effectiveness over a defined period.
- Strengthening Cloud Infrastructure Security and Controls: In a Cloud environment, customers need to understand how their infrastructure is protected against unauthorized access, uncontrolled changes, and security incidents. SOC 2 Type II evaluates controls across areas such as access control, change management, incident management, monitoring, and logging, giving customers greater visibility into how GreenNode manages and protects its Cloud infrastructure in day-to-day operations.
- Supporting Reliable Service for Business-Critical Workloads: Cloud availability has a direct impact on business continuity. Critical workloads require an infrastructure platform capable of maintaining service continuity and availability in line with agreed service commitments. As part of the SOC 2 Type II assessment, controls related to availability, backup and recovery, and business continuity and recovery were evaluated, providing customers with an additional layer of independent assurance around GreenNode’s ability to manage factors that affect service availability.
- Demonstrating That Controls Work in Practice: One of the key distinctions of SOC 2 Type II is its focus on operating effectiveness. Having well-designed policies and processes alone is not enough. SOC 2 Type II evaluates whether controls are actually implemented and operating consistently throughout the assessment period. For customers, this provides a more practical view of a Cloud provider’s operational capabilities, particularly for enterprises with stringent requirements around security, risk management, and compliance.
